Having briefly covered some of the major events in Jacob’s life in the sermon, how were the actions/struggles of Jacob/Joseph/Brothers a consistent result of family traits and family upbringing? (You may want to briefly review Gen 25-35)
A case might be made that Joseph should have kept his dreams to himself so as not to antagonize his brothers. On the other hand, he likely recognized it as a message from God. Should Joseph have kept God’s revelation to himself for the sake of peace and humility, or did he do the right thing in sharing it with his family?
- How could he have handled things better/different?
Joseph is often upheld as an example of faithfulness and integrity. Is it right to describe him as arrogant/indifferent? Why/Why not?
One of the main points in the sermon was “God can do incredible things with incredibly messy people.” Where else in Scripture do you see examples of this? In what ways have you seen or experienced this in your life?
