Scriptures to Review: Exodus 19:1-6, 20:1-17

It was said in the message: “we follow the Ten Commandments because they are a reflection of God’s heart and will universally and for all time.”

–        How do we know which commands in Scripture are meant for a specific time and place in history and which commands reflect God’s heart and are meant for all time?

–        Can you think of any commands in the New Testament that we have determined that it is acceptable to no longer follow? Why do we feel that it is now ok for Christians to ignore these?

–        Different stances on human sexuality are playing a role in the division of the UMC. How do we know if what is said about homosexuality in the Old and New Testaments was meant just for that time and place or if it still applies today?

–        Can you think of any examples of Jesus fulfilling/clarifying the Old Covenant Law including the 10 Commandments? (hint: look up what Jesus said about: anger, sabbath, adultery, etc.)

Ongoing Discussion Point:  What thoughts/questions/concerns do you have regarding Trinity disaffiliating from the UMC and joining the Global Methodist Church?
